Tayung and her 12-year-old daughter Pakis live in a small community in Indonesia. Tayung’s husband, a fisherman, has still not returned and she secretly fears he is lost ; Pakis still believes he is alive and treasures an old framed mirror he gave her. At night she lies awake, dreaming of his return. But a young scientist arrives from Jakarta and Tayung rents out her husband’s adjoining hut to him. Both mother and daughter take a liking to him, but as the days go by there’s still no news of the missing father. Filmed in Wakatobi in the Coral Triangle, this drama portrays the lives of the Bajo people today – sea nomads who have developed a unique way of life that is perfectly attuned to the sea.
